Hello Enno, Brian, and anyone else that has read my problem. I think that I have found what has been happening, but have yet to fix it. The changes have been saved in a folder that resides in a different partition on one of the hard drives. Not at all sure why this has happened but fairly sure it is caused by a mistake made by myself. This computer is an elderly ex-lease desktop that once ran an earlier version of MS Windows. I have replaced Windows with MX-Linux and installed a second hard drive, an SSD with the most recent version of MX. With the guidance that you have given I should be able to sort things out. I should comment that I don't think as fast as in previous years. I used to teach computer basics to groups of electronic technicians, but that was 60 years ago. Kind regards, Gordon.
