Solve "Your version of gi (gnome-introspection) seems to be too old" ?

On my PCs, Gramps works for a while (days or months), then for no apparent change on my side it suddenly refuses to start: it displays the splash screen and exits silently. No error, message, nothing. Only in the log file there is this entry: Your version of gi (gnome-introspection) seems to be too old. You need a version which has the function 'require_version' to start Gramps I don't know what is gi, and I really don't understand how it could suddenly become too old after beeing good enough for a while. How can I fix this? Do I need to change a parameter, or install/update something?
