Thanks Brad for your reply.

Before posting my initial message, I tried to do what you suggest to no 
avail. Restoring a specific .ini file was the right remedy offered by 
George. However, I had to rebuild with the appropriate tool the 
references tables afterwards. Although all seem to work as usual by now, 
I fear some glitches still lurking in the database awaiting to popup at 
some time.
