Hello Brian,
I know exactly how the mess occurred and I'm the culprit. In fact, I
have two wireless keyboards connected at the same time to my Mac, and I
put my smartphone inadvertently on my second keyboard, just onto the
Enter key of the numeric keypad. I didn't notice the problem
immediately. I was trying to search a given family when I saw the beach
ball cursor continually spinning like if Gramps were stuck in an endless
algorithmic loop, but it was just my iPhone that was launching on its
own the same search over and over again. Every now and then I could
briefly intervene in this crazy process, that's how I have had the
opportunity to quit Gramps. A little later I realized what the problem was.
I think that you are certainly right, the data were left untouched and
only the .ini files were corrupted. I have made a backup and run
afterward the check and repair tool, I haven't noticed serious problems
so far. It's just that hundreds of empty events have been deleted, but I
have no idea what an empty event stands for.
Maybe all this is a wake up call telling me it's time for me to upgrade
to Gramps 5. I will probably be migrating sooner than I originally
thought, maybe in a few weeks. That said, I hope I could revert easily
to an older version in case I'm not satisfied.
