Clone a built-in report .py file & its piece frim tge composite .gpr.py registration to an add-on folder. Give it a unique ID and tweak all the paths for inclusions and files.
Then you can tweak and share a report that can evolve independently of the new feature release cycle.
Gary Griffin just posted a ”sample report” thread to the Discourse forum that specifically shows the difference between outputting Place names that show era-corrected info vs. 'Preferred' name.

Unfortunately, the Graphical Reports are not Addons, so I dont think they would get fixed until at least next release.
I explored and found that all of the reports which have a Display tab which allows the user to specify the Display Format have this issue. There are 3 reports: Ancestor Tree, Descendant Tree, and Family Descendant Tree.
I added a Note to the bug report. It is beyond me to fix, but I did identify the file (gramps/plugins/lib/libsubstkeyword.py) that needs fixed to pass the date of the event to the Place processing.
