So do all their lists now rely exclusively on the web interface for
users to unsubscribe themselves? This is a problem for people who get a
new email address but lose access to their subscribed address before
they have a chance to unsubscribe.

A different list system would seem to be a good idea. The problem is
usually continuity — sourceforge seemed like a good idea at the time.

So long as it has robust list management and isn't going to disappear or
be bought up by a predatory VC. They do have a Mailman migration tool.
Keeping the archive of messages is probably important for users,
especially newcomers, who want to search it to find helpful messages.
