You may want read the following thread on the Discourse forum. The OP was wanting to sign up a team to add ChatGPT options to GrampsWeb. https://gramps.discourse.group/t/chat-with-your-geneology/4259 On Fri, Jan 12, 2024 at 9:25 AM, Edward Veal<[email protected]> wrote: Thanks for the tip! That said, I am really just looking to experiment and push limits. You are 100% right about using Gramps for my example. But I think as AI availability grows it should be able to look at this type of complex data and help individuals find gaps or threads of interest. I know that is how Ancestry.com and FamilySearch are doing things like hints and leaves. We just don't have access to that level of AI yet... This limit may affect the size of GEDCOM files that can be analyzed in a single input. As for the type of analysis suggested, such as creating a list of individuals that could have fought in the Civil War, it would depend on the specific capabilities of the GPT model and the complexity of the analysis. While GEDCOM is a text-based format and ChatGPT excels at working with text, the specific analysis of whole generations within a GEDCOM file would require careful consideration of the file's structure and the capabilities of the language model. The limitations of the GPT model and the complexity of the GEDCOM file may impact the feasibility of conducting such an analysis. Therefore, while ChatGPT can work with GEDCOM files, the size limitation and the specific type of analysis may impact its effectiveness for the suggested purpose. Of its own limits Perplexity resisted answering. However, the 'tokens' limit of of ChatGPT is 8,192 while Perplexity's is 2,000 tokens. So one assume it would choke on less. This kind of analysis is something I would do inside Gramps. Create a filter for males probably alive during the years of the war, with any events in the USA during their lifespan, and born more than 12 years before the war started. If you need an external list then: Change the Display Preferences to format the name as you want for your list. Export the filtered view as a CSV list. This maillist doesn't make sharing filters easy. You might want to visit the Gramps Discourse forum. There are multiple discussions about filtering for such data: https://gramps.discourse.group/tag/new_filter_rules On Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 07:41:38 PM CST, edward.m.veal <[email protected]> wrote: Yep it claims to but I can't create a gedcom file small enough not to choke ChatGPT. I have tried the export tool in Gramps but it never get a valid CSV file to upload to ChatGPT. It would be great to be able to point the AI at a genealogy research database and help you identify interesting trends or facts that you might miss being focused on individuals.
