I'm not sure, but it looks like someone is, because I can download 5.2.2 
on Tumbleweed, directly from the official software library. It's 
available as a system package, and as a Flatpak version.

Normally yes. Gramps 5.2 can read a 5.1 database, and will convert it to 
the 5.2 format, saving the original as a ZIP file. You will have to move 
filters to the new version though, and download new plugins made for 5.2.

In your case, I would do an upgrade to Tumbleweed first, because if you 
use that, you can use the official repo, and don't need the ecsos repo 
anymore. It makes installing 5.2.2 a lot easier, and maybe you can then 
just wait for 5.2.3 to appear.

I tried Leap 15.6 here too, and tried to install on 5.2.2 on that, using 
the 1-click install, for Leap. But that version gave me so many warnings 
about possible unsafe repositories that I gave up, because even for me 
as a software engineer, there is no way to decide what's safe, and 
what's not.
