 Hi Cameron,

First, your message has been cross-posted to the Gramps Support Forum where there are already a few threads on "probably living":
https://gramps.discourse.group/t/list-of-living-people-at-given-date/3146/6

This first suggestion is probably NOT contributing to the issue... but is a good idea after importing from GEDCOM. Check for Invalid dates and correct those that are obvious. (See the discussion at  https://gramps.discourse.group/t/making-date-input-more-flexible/2814 )  Invalid dates are Boldface in the Events view. (Sort on Date and they are listed after the blank dates.) The Isotammi project has several add-on options that help.

Also, on a backup copy of the Tree, you might want to try the "Calculate Estimated Dates" addon tool to give the "probably living" feature a more explicit set of estimated birth and death dates.

Gramps 5.2.3, x64, both under windows 10, and Debian (using the ubuntu20 .deb.file).

I am trying to process my wife's tree, imported from Gedcom, looking forall living people without certain characteristics.

I set limits for About, After and Before each to 1 year.

If I add a custom filter "probably living" and set a date explicitly to yesterday then I get  947 individuals, and it looks about right.

However, if I leave the date empty, the docs say it should default to "today" and possibly include extra people who have a death event recorded with no date at all.  So, I expected to get the same number or possibly a few more.  However, I only get 491. The striking feature is that not a single one of them has been assigned a birth date.

If I search birth date between "1919 and 2024" then I find nearly 300 people with a birth date and no death record. These people should all appear in the probably alive filter but none do.

Am I doing something completely wrong, or is there a bug?

Cameron.
