The only down side is that your new note Type will only appear in the language it was created in. For most people, that's not really a drawback, but I'm aware that some people do use Gramps in multiple languages. The language thing is also why the dev team are sometimes reluctant to add new types without some pretty compelling reasons; The new Types all need to be translated into multiple languages.
