Maps and time series, plots etc.

Hi!
I have a wealth of information, most of it geospatial, but some of it
"loosely geospatial" (they are time trends associated with location;
e.g., evolution of land use over many years over region x). I got
talked into providing this in the web, in a way similar to USDA's new
satellite imagery page for crop monitoring
<http://pekko.geog.umd.edu/usda/test/>. Can anyone suggest where to
start looking for this? Apart from starting from scratch, and
leveraging Mapserver for the mapping and spatial query bit, is there
something that "more or less" works? I doubt it, as this is probably a
very particular problem that no generic tool can hope to cover itself.
