Actually it's just Alessandro and me. We've been trying to implement it 
as a QGIS Python plugin. Alessandro does not have time to work on this 
in the moment. He'll be back in a couple of weeks. And I'm currently 
stuck, for being a complete Python noob. If there is anybody interested 
in helping me write a QGIS Python plugin for managing PostGIS layers 
please take a look at [1] where I'm describing my current problem and 
attaching the current Python code. Don't hesitate to drop me a line if 
you have ideas how to proceed.

The desired functionality in more detail is outlined in my other post [2].
