Hi Allen-

We have plans for this, even a proposal pending at NSF.  Would be happy to have you involved.  Because of other things going on we plan to start in January, hope that is soon enough for you.  There are many many people interested in in a GMT API so better to put brains together and come up with a useful interface.  We are working on the Matlab interface which will presumably share some concepts, but it could be different.
