For me, the GMT version shipped with Ubuntu 13.10 is totally unusable. I randomly get either segmentation faults from the most simple psbasemap call, or some grdimage calls never return and don't do anything. I downgraded to the previous GMT version [*] and everything's fine for me. Cheers, Andreas.
