Yeah sorry about that, I should have posted the command and some input data (especially since I have been bothering others for this information) I also found out what the problem were (and forgott to reply my own question). Naively I thought that when using the -C option on psxyz in combination with -So, (or -SO for that matter) the colorlookup would be based on the height of the column which is not the case as should not be either. Thus the missing fourth value is the value to use for colorlookup... Anyway, I've stumbled across another minor obstacle that some of you may advice me on. How to compute a proper size of the column. What I'm trying to accomplish is a map of the Swedish seismicity binned into bins of say 0.05 degrees in lat and lon. Now my problem is probably that I do not fully grasp what is meant by "x-units" and "plot-distance units" in the manpage of psxyz (in the description of the -So option). For one thing it seems that the size should be latitude dependent and further a diferent scale factor is needed for x and y. In the end I fell back to plotting the faces of the columns one-by-one using psxyz and surprisingly this turned out to also cut the execution time of my script by up to 90% so for the moment I all happy.
