Thanks Joaquim, I too am baffled, on my MAC OS X (mountain lion, GMT 5.1.0) the script produces the following figure

while the same script produces the following figure on Linux (Ubuntu, GMT 4.5.1)

Strange, except for the

gmtset: Syntax error: Unrecognized keyword ANNOT_FONT_SIZE.

all the rest worked fine for me with GMT5
