How about a low-tech solution:  plot *just* the coverage circles,
filled in black, and convert the result to png @ 600dpi, then
run that through something like autotrace (apt-getable on Ubuntu)
which can output to a text file, tweak that output as input to
psxy.

Downside, lots of tweaking with the autotrace command-line options, some 
pain in scaling and registration. But once setup should be
scriptable.
