Installing GSHHG files

OK, So my GMT box is locked tight behind a firewall (i.e., no
Internet access), and installation for me means manually pulling in
a tarball (i.e., thumb drive) and installing the old-fashioned
way... no "yum install gmt" for me :-((

I've gotten the GSHHG tarball and extracted it. Where do the *.nc
files go? There seems to be no "make; make install" option. Nor
can I find any instructions as I assume this is designed to be all
taken care of by yum. I tried putting them in
$GMT5_HOME/share/coast/ (like GMT4 was), but I still get the same
complaint about missing GSHHG data...
