GMT's functionality has grown enormously but my ability to think in GMT is not always keeping up. Just remembered that someone had already made a, in a way, related request and because of it: The block(s) in GMT5 have an option (-E) the report the id of the picked point, so if you run it 3 times and on each time, somehow, the picked point is removed from the original dataset at the end you'll get 3 sets with the winners (or none) for each cell.
