Hi GMT users-

As you known, GMT has a parameter TIME_LANGUAGE that users can set to get time-axes annotations in their own language (e.g., Norwegian, Greek). We are extending this to compass directions such as printed in plots by psrose and along every basemap. For us to implement this we need help from those of you who know the answers in different languages. We already have english, dutch, and spanish covered. Other languages we are seeking help with are given by these language files [from share/time]

br.d cn2.d	dk.d	fr.d	hi.d	ie.d	is.d	jp.d	no.d	pt.d	se.d	to.d	uk.d
cn1.d	de.d eh.d	fi.d	gr.d	hu.d	il.d	it.d	pl.d	ru.d	sg.d	tr.d

If you can help with any of these languages, please reply or (even better) respond to issue # 561 on the GMT issues tracker (http://gmt.soest.hawaii.edu/issues/561#change-2324) and upload a file with the required section. The new section looks like this (this is from the Spanish file):

# es.d
# The following lines give the translation of the 4 major compass directions (WESN).
# The third column is the name of the compass direction in full (capitalise if that is common in your language).
# The fourth column is the abbreviation used on the edges of a map for longitude and latitude (in some languages this can be more than one letter).
# The fifth column is the abbreviation used on on a compass rose (in some languages this can be more than one letter).
C 1 oeste O O
C 2 este E E
C 3 sur S S
C 4 norte N N

Now, if your language is not even listed in share/time then perhaps you can help us add it. Have a look at any of these files and craft one for your language and submit it.

Sincerely, the GMT team
