In Spanish you generally capitalize the first letter of the cardinal points when you refer to its name: Oeste, Este, Norte, Sur. I thing its the same idea in french. You use them in lowercase only when you want to express a relative position (same as in "two miles south of this town"), or use it as an adjective: latitud norte, viento sur (south wind).... but, you say: el Sur In a map (or compas rose) is more usual to see the first letter in uppercase 2014-05-15 21:47 GMT+02:00 p Valdés <[email protected]>: > http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point_cardinal > > > 2014-05-15 21:46 GMT+02:00 p Valdés <[email protected]>: > > # français >> >> C 1 ouest O O >> C 2 est E E >> C 3 sud S S >> C 4 nord N N >> >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJCRaKsJJdU >> >> >> >> 2014-05-15 19:13 GMT+02:00 Paul Wessel <[email protected]>: >> >> Hi GMT users- >>> >>> As you known, GMT has a parameter TIME_LANGUAGE that users can set to >>> get time-axes annotations in their own language (e.g., Norwegian, Greek). >>> We are extending this to compass directions such as printed in plots by >>> psrose and along every basemap.
