If you want to plot the whole of Costa Rica, and want bathymetry too, =
and given that you are new to GMT, I'd recommend using SRTM30-PLUS

There are full globe 1 and 2 minute grids, and tiles at 30 minute =
resolution (c. 1 km) in grd or nc format, via ftp. You should be able to =
get going quickly using the GMT cookbook examples.
