Yesterday during the final hours of the FOSS4G meeting in Bucharest the 2019 OSGeo Sol Katz Award was given to Even Rouault. Even has received the award based on his huge body of work on many OSGeo projects, including PROJ. I know that many think that Even should have received the award a long time ago (me included), but in the light of the massive effort Even has put into creating PROJ 6 and GDAL 3 over the last year and a half I think the timing of the award couldn't be better. I can't think of a more well-deserving recipient of the award. Congratulations Even and thank you for all your work! For those of you who did not attend the meeting in person, the award ceremony is available as a streaming video [0]. It's a short video which I encourage you to watch. I would also like to highlight Even's talk "Revamp of Coordinate Reference System management in the OSGeo C/C++ stack with PROJ and GDAL" [1] which is an excellent summary of the all the changes that came along with PROJ 6 and most definitely of interest to all subscribers of this mailing list. /Kristian [0] https://media.ccc.de/v/bucharest-481-awards-ceremony#t=1230 [1] https://media.ccc.de/v/bucharest-198-revamp-of-coordinate-reference-system-management-in-the-osgeo-c-c-stack-with-proj-and-gdal _______________________________________________ PROJ mailing list [email protected] https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/proj
