Well, support for additional formats sounds good.
But as eog uses gdk-pixbuf's generic animation API it should
automatically support APNGs, once they are supported in gdk-pixbuf.
Or at least it should work with minimal changes, assuming gdk-pixbuf's
API doesn't change too much.

Also I can currently not foretell how much free time I can invest into
GNOME/GSoC during summer. So, I think it might be better if someone
who's deeper into gdk-pixbuf could mentor you.
