Yes, the inet monitor could keep a history of connections and count as a new hit any newly encountered closed entry in the udp file, but the accuracy would depend on the assumption that all closed connections will persist in the udp file long enough to be sampled at the one second interval. It would likely depend on incoming connection rates or whatever kernel policies. I guess I'll have to think this over some more... and for now hold off on doing anything on that debugging tarball I mentioned.
