it is not only the user specified in gkrellmd.conf but it is something to do with our
start/stop init system! when started by the init.d script it runs as the proper user
however it still does not see the video stuff. when i run it manually it sees the vid
stuff fine as root or my desktop user, so i guess ill run it from local.start using
gkrellmd & and use killall in local.stop since i apparently cannot use the init system.
i never tried this before all my upgrades because i never needed it, but since the system
and kde upgrade things have been weird.

im a 'if it aint broke dont fix it' kinda mentality, but when not updating for the sake of
updating starts causing trouble where i install something and the dependencies upgrade
requirement list gets to be almost as large as my world file its time to update
everything.. after all it was a bit more than a year since my last system update.

thanks for the help. showed up lots a things i would not have thought of since it all
worked fine before and i have never had an init problem.
