I don't know about Bill's plans but I want to build GKrellM with 
GTK_DISABLE_DEPRECATED set when redoing the gui parts that I intended to 
redo about two releases ago ;)

I already had a huge patch that fixes most of the random margins/padding 
and the excessive use of groupboxes. Right now I'm tinkering with the 
idea of trying out Glade but I fear that the changes are probably BIC 
and more suitable suitable for GKrellM 3.x. For the next 2.x versions 
cleaning up redrawing (some of it is still happening outside of 
paint-event!) and switching to some less-deprecated APIs makes sense.
