more observations:
now that outgoing calls work **when starting ekiga as root from a root 
terminal session**
a) incoming calls do not work anymore
b) there is no entry under accounts....
I would really like to get it to run for both incoming and outgoing call 
while using my normal "Thomas" user account.
When starting from the menu as Thomas I am getting the message "Ekiga 
did not manage to configure your network settings automatically. You can 
still use it, but you need to configure your network settings manually.

instructions". I have configured the port forwarding as described when 
following this link, but no change. As this didn't help, I have deleted 
the port forwarding rules again.
Attaching a new log created after starting ekiga from the command line 
as root and then I placed a call to another SIP client on my network 
(successfully), but when trying to call my ekiga client from that other 
machine I am getting an error and there is no call announced on the 
ekiga side.
