I spent some time searching for the page that describes how to use
variables in scheduled transactions, but was unsuccessful. It appears in
neither the help index nor the Using Gnucash Wiki -- does anyone have a
link to it?

To my surprise, I asked Copilot and it gave me a complete and very
detailed explanation (no idea how accurate it is, though). I wonder
where it got it?

My specific questions are related to a batch of about 10 transactions I
want to schedule of the first of every month. I want all the memo
entries to have the three-character month abbreviation (eg. "Jul" for
the upcoming ones).

1. Copilot says I can't do formula evaluation in a memo field, but I can
do variable substitution. Does this latter work for text strings?

2. If so, can I avoid having to enter "Jul" for each of the scheduled
transactions (ie. can a variable be made to persist between scheduled
transactions in the same run)?

(I expect I could group all the accounting transactions in a single
scheduled transaction to at least partially achieve this).

3. Is there a better way to achieve this?

Thanks as always for all help,

Paul
