Thinking on it a bit more from your 3-part use case, maybe just go with location, but set the report's range to match your target dates. Yes, that means you can't get a single report with multiple 'trips' shown unless they are all on the same date, or don't cross period boundaries. (because you can use date as a sorting and subtotaling key, but that has its own limitations - see the Options > Sorting tab) I'm not following why Description would be included in the filter. That can of course be shown in the report, but not sure why you'd want to filter on it. Can you give an example?
