I didn't realise it was so recent.  I thought maybe I had missed it last
time I played with a recent build. (I also thought I had looked at the
date but I must have looked at the duplicate not the patch report.)

If I read the report correctly it only allows for deleting empty folders
(I reread the report again today and I see now more clearly it will not
delete a folder with any subfolders) which while safe and cautious and
probably a good idea it is not what I might expect from my experience with
other programs.

I understand the existing choices of GQView might make it difficult to
offer the feature anywhere else.

Perhaps the standard isn't quite as "standard" as I thought, can be
difficult to tell when a Freedesktop.org spec is more than just a draft.

KDE uses a folder ~/Trash and I thought Gnome also used it but perhaps I
am mistaken.  (I'd check but I'm not at a suitable computer at the
moment.)

I'll try it and get back to you if it causes any problems.

Just that developers and old skool unix users tend to call it a directory
rather than a folder and I didn't want to go through the entire post
writing folder/directory.  No criticism of gqview implied or intended.

Bugzilla has flaws but the sourceforge tracker is definately worse.  The
division of bugs, requests, and patches, doesn't really work for me.
Marking bugs as duplicates and tieing them togethers asks a little more of
the person closing the bug but it is totally worth it.  Having said that
the service is great value for money and I'm very grateful to sourceforge.
