Are you aware that a group of developers have forked gqview and
created geeqie? The reason for the fork was that the developer of
GQview was not able to be contacted and so for some progress to happen
they needed fork.

Geeqie has the same quick/easy philosophy as GQview but is under
development. The mailing list is
