I can't tell from what I found on gtk.org -- the only reasonable hit for
"render AND extension" I got led to
"http://www.gtk.org/gtk+-2.0.0-announce.html", which contains this mention
in the GDK section:
* Support for anti-aliased fonts and alpha-composited images via the
RENDER extension to X.
That doesn't read like a requirement, although I can see how it would be
helpful with fading tooltips and the like.
I suppose that, before reporting bugs against GTK, to be thorough I should
try building GTK on this box and see if it works locally. To keep the
system small(er) I have built only KDE apps here -- GTK libraries are not
even present.
