Hello, There are several things I would like a little feedback for in the recent GQview 1.5.6: + Thumbnail Managing Standard This is the new thumbnail cache mechanism that is turned on by enabling 'Use shared thumbnail cache'. The details of the specification can be found here: http://triq.net/~jens/thumbnail-spec/index.html By default the shared thumbnail cache is not enabled. Eventually I would like to make this the default caching mechanism, but since the code is so new I would like a few people to try it out and report any quirks or problems compared to the 'classic' mechanism. Also the new cache design makes updating the cache when renaming or moving original images take considerably more time, so they are updated in the background after the operation on the original image(s) is completed. I would like to know if the background processing of the thumbnail cache causes any real responsiveness problems. + Automatic collection updates 1.5.6 introduced automatic updates of collection files in $(HOME)/.gqview/collections when files are moved or renamed. Please be wary of this fact if you use collections, and report _any_ problems. Implementation note: The collection files are not immediately updated when moving or renaming files, but are processed in the background after a short delay of about 10 seconds. Changes will however be immediately processed when opening a collection or exiting GQview. + Printing This has slowly progressed over the past few releases, has anyone actually tried to print anything? + Documentation Did you know it now exists? (help->contents) If anyone actually RTM: Please report any sections that are confusing, lacking, or missing. + ???? Those following this list known about the various full screen changes, so if there is anyone with a problem with full screen in 1.5.6 now is the time to speak up. And finally, the Search feature is new in 1.5.x - any feedback would be appreciated here too. I am bringing all these things to attention because it feels to be about the right time to start pushing for a new stable release. There is no timeline, but my feeling is late February or early March (2005) Greetings, John -- John Ellis <[email protected]> http://gqview.sourceforge.net <GQview> | http://gqapplets.sourceforge.net http://gqmpeg.sourceforge.net <GQmpeg> | <panel applets> ------------------------------------------------------- The SF.Net email is sponsored by: Beat the post-holiday blues Get a FREE limited edition SourceForge.net t-shirt from ThinkGeek.
