GQview 1.2.x uses gdk-pixbuf to load images, please first try to make sure gdk-pixbuf is up to date - the last release of gdk-pixbuf was 0.22.0. If the problem persists, try to update GQview to the latest stable release (1.4.5). The bitmap problem mentioned will be fixed, as the newer versions of GQview use GTK2, and the bitmap loader included with GTK2 is known to be fixed in this regard.
