First, check if another application that uses GTK+'s gdk-pixbuf to load jpg
images works for the images in question (eog, gthumb, nautilus, etc.) If they do
not work, either your libjpeg installation is somehow broken or the GTK+ library
was built without jpeg support.


You can also start GQview in debug mode from a terminal with:

  gqview --debug

at startup a bunch of 'loader reported...' lines will appear, one of them should
be for jpeg:

  loader reported [jpeg] [The JPEG image format] [.jpeg;.jpe;.jpg]

If it is missing, then GTK+ is either missing jpeg support, or the GTK+ install
is somehow broken.


If jpeg support is enabled in GTK+, you should have a file named
libpixbufloader-jpeg.so located at a location similar to this (your install
prefix/version may differ):

  /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.4.0/loaders/libpixbufloader-jpeg.so
