IPTC-data

Hello!

I just found out by looking at the sources, that gqview uses its own 
proprietary metadata directory to store metadata such as keywords and 
comments.

Here a feature request:

It would be really cool to have all metadata stored inside the photos using 
IPTC. That way, metadata can also be used by other programs. As far as I can 
see, libiptcdata (http://libiptcdata.sourceforge.net/) can be used to do that 
fairly easily. 

I suggest to still use the .gqview/metadata directory for performance issues 
and add an option to scan Imagas in certain directories for IPTC data to be 
merged with the metadata-directory. The image's IPTC data should have 
priority, i.e. when there's already data in the metadata-dir, then that 
should be updated and the IPTC data should be kept. That way, changes made to 
IPTC data with other programs is not overwritten. For the same reason, 
changing metadata within gqview should first change the IPTC data and then 
update the cache.

What do you think about that? Is there anyone in the team to do that? If not, 
I might volunteer to do that if you like the idea, although I have very 
little time and not too much expertise in programming gtk.
