Go-to-file-as-you-type

Hi,

I have several thousands images in single directories.
Their names all start 
with a timestamp for easy chronological ordering. When
I browse my images 
with Gqview, it's quite hard to get to a specific date
quickly. I have to 
scroll carefully (and this is difficult since there is
a huge amount of 
files). Using the touchpad on a laptop, this is almost
impossible.

It would be nice if typing a few caracters would jump
to the first file 
begining with those caracters. Several GTK file
dialogs allow that (the GIMP 
for example).

Another thing that would make me happy is to have the
option to copy the 
basenames of a selection. Currently, the whole path of
each file is pasted in 
a command window when draging a selection into it and
selecting "Paste".
