Interesting.  I would love to know when you have this working.

GQView I believe tries to follow a thumbnail standard, which could have
thumbnails from from a number of different places.

  Are you sure you are saving the image in the right directory?

  Could there be another thumbnail for that image in that directory?

  Is the 'hash' key files name correct?
  Does it change depending on the image filename, or content?
  Does modifying the image generate a different thumbnail filename?

  Do you update the thumbnail while GQView is running, and thus might
  already have the thumbnail cached in memory?

An so on.  There are lots or reasons and factors that could cause you
problems.
