It is set to use "shared thumbnail cache" which is freedesktop
thumbnail standard http://jens.triq.net/thumbnail-spec/

The file I saved "updated" by qview which means that I calculate the
right path.

The funny thing is specification doesn't force a detailed file format.
What I'm doing seems to be right according to the standard but gqview
doesn't use them.
