scrollbar or other progress indicator

When I'm in a folder with many entries (for instance, processing a bunch of new photos) I'd like to get a sense of how far I am. Am I a quarter, half, or mostly finished paging through the files? Does such an indicator option exist for mc? I don't actually want to scroll with my mouse, just to know how many entries are in the folder and how far I am down.
