I generally use mc where bash tab-complete would take longer (or indeed far longer). That includes copying/moving multiple disparate files, but does have the disadvantage of requiring selection of the destination directory. Granted, this can be shortcutted on the commandline i.e. $ mc /home/user/here /other/user/there will open mc with those directories open in each pane. If I just want to move one file or files (and destinations) that I can quickly tab-complete, I use commandline. However, mc's great for looking inside archive files (zip, arj, jar, tarball, iso) too. I also use mc if I want a hexdump viewer, as the one in mc is more capable than my own listing application. I don't tend to use mc for too many other things. It is still one of the first applications I choose to install on new machines, along with vim, ssh and a couple of other utilities.
