No, AFAIK wifi ftp server has no sftp, but i don't know, why there 
should be a different behavior, if the linux ftp client command gets 
write rights in a parallel running session. I wonder if there is some mc 
"fallback to readonly" mode causing this. I'll give it a try on a better 
wifi connection...
