Hello,
I stumbled across MrProject today so I'm not even using it yet, but I had some questions and observations if I may. I've looked over the archives but not found what I was looking for.
As a bit of an introduction I'm a project manager in the UK managing different kinds of projects, usually with an IT component but not always. I wouldn't manage a team of developers, for instance, I would leave that to other people, but I take responsibility for ensuring that the every aspect of the project comes together at the right time.
Is there a feature list somewhere of the prioritised requirements of MrProject? By this I mean what is the next feature to be developed and where is it going overall? Who controls this and decides what gets done and when?
In the archives I saw some requests for features to make MrProject "different" from the others. I would suggest such things as product based planning (where the actual tasks are derived from the products and only exist at the very lowest level), risk analysis such as Risk+ (http://www.cs-solutions.com/products/risk_plus.html) or to be really radical, Critical Chain scheduling such as ProChain (http://www.prochain.com).
I also spotted a number of questions regarding project management in general. As a start I would suggest the 5 minute email list at http://www.newgrange.org. This has some really good contributors, such as Bill Duncan who wrote the origing PMI Guide to the Body of Knowledge.
BTW, there is a project management XML schema that may be of interest to the developers. It can be found at http://www.webshadow.com/xml/xml.asp. Please note that I am not connected to PacificEdge in any way.
I look forward to seeing how MrProject develops and to contributing where I can.
Regards,
Steve Evans :-)
