You could use GARNOME to install the latest Gnome 2.2
desktop on your RedHat 7.3 system, then you can build
the latest MrProject.
http://www.gnome.org/~jdub/garnome/

Upgrading to RedHat 8.0 will give you Gnome 2.0, not
2.2, and I personally haven't been able to compile
MrProject 0.9 with that configuration. I am looking
at updating to Gnome 2.2 via GARNOME to see if that
resolves the issue (with mrp-marshal).

You will be able to run MrProject on RedHat 8.0 if you
install from the RPM's, of course, so the question is
whether it is less painful to upgrade to RedHat 8.0 or
update using Garnome... it depends on your system.
