GNOME is a desktop environment; a graphical desktop interface and some
accompanying applications. GNOME is free software as defined on
http://www.fsf.org/philosophy/free-sw.html.

CodeFactory is a company based in Sweden that employs a few of the
developers that work on GNOME and many of the developers working on
MrProject.

MandrakeSoft is the company behind Linux-Mandrake, one of many GNU/Linux
distributions. A distribution is a collection of software, typically
value-added by the distributor testing it, packaging it and making sure
it works together, providing an installer for it, and offering support
for the whole product.

Freeware is not the same as free software. Freeware is a term commonly
used for proprietary software provided without cost, while free software
refers to non-proprietary software with additional freedoms. It may or
may not have a cost. You can read an explanation of free software at the
link provided above.

Most of this is explained on several locations on the web
(http://www.linux.org/ seems to be a good start), and a detailed
explanation of all this is probably out of the scope of this list.
