Interpretation of results

I hope my questions aren't too stupid, but I couldn't figure out the meaning
of the following two things:

1. How does mrproject calculate the cost row in "Tasks" view? I couldn't
find out what the program does here, as I never got the same results...
2. What is "Slack"?  (by the way: it isn't translated into German yet)
