Problem with syncing

Hi,
I try for month to connect my IPAQ (HP1940) to Evolution but I got all
kinds of trouble.
System: AMD K450 FC2 (kernel 2.6.10-1)
I have installed synce and multisync and the relevant kernel modules.
The system communicates OK as I can see in the debugging mode a
multitude of data (ipaq_read_buk_callback lots of data, serial_write
port 0 a few bytes). But the IPAQ tells me "cannot start communications
with the desktop computer" a typical MS error message telling nothing as
I can see it for myself.
I think the problem is with the IPAQ but on the other hand it connects
effortlessly with any MS OS (W2000 as well as XP). As I do all my work
with Linux and have to use MS sometimes out of necessity to get
synchronisation is very important.
I have sometimes succeeded in running pls pstatus, etc. but most of the
times I get the error:
"Unable to initialize RAPI: An unspecified failure has occurred"
Hopefully someone can give help.
