As to the connection popups, they did occur multiple times because of 
multiple connections,
but I changed that to a block that is in effect from the firtst popup 
until the user accepts
the cert. The effect is that only one popup is shown and the connection 
is stalled.

Hmmm, speaking of dumbing down the user. But I could change the port 
automatically to the default and the user can then still decide
the "correct" port number afterwards.
