What fs (and journalling option if reiserfs or ext3, don't know about others) and kernel are you using? I know there was a time a couple years ago when reiserfs was zeroing out files the metadata log couldn't restore properly after a crash, and a time before that where it would occasionally mix segments of files together, sometimes ending up with a section of binary in an otherwise text config file, for instance, causing "interesting" bugs when an app tried to parse its config file, expecting only text. =8^( I've had no such problems since the introduction of reiserfs data=ordered journalling, with it the default, in the 2.6.12 kernel or there abouts, IIRC. -- Duncan - List replies preferred.
